College of The Bahamas
Message from the Director: Danielle Turnquest
This year, The Bahamas Chapter of InnoWorks celebrates its fourth anniversary, truly a milestone to be proud of, as we are the first international branch of United InnoWorks Academy to achieve this.
Though we are a small country, being an archipelago has made sharing science opportunities with as many interested students as possible difficult. However, with outstanding help from The College Of The Bahamas volunteers we have been able to gather students from the less populated Islands of The Bahamas and bring them to the capital, Nassau for our summer camp each year, exposing them to the marvels and creative wonders of the world of science.
Our summer camp programme targets underprivileged school students, whose schools often lack the essential equipment to perform even basic science experiments, usually due to a lack funds or a lack of teachers to teach the sciences. It has been the mission of our chapter to fill the gap for these students, helping them to discover, understand and appreciate science in a fun and innovative way.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making the InnoWorks summer camp a success. Without the help the volunteers from The College of The Bahamas, supportive parents and science loving students from around The Bahamas, we would not be where we are today. We are indebted to St. Andrews school for the use of their facilities and lab, where we host the camp every year. We would like to thank our adviser, Dr. Carlton Watson, The Chair of The School of Mathematics, Physics & Technology at The College The Bahamas for opening their labs for us. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Colina Imperial Insurance Company for their kind donations towards the camp.
The Bahamas IWO Chapter is looking forward for the continued support of the Bahamian community in showcasing the best camp yet. We challenge the community and all citizens of The Bahamas to help us make a difference for students who love science.
