Nirav PatelPublicity Chair
Nirav Patel, a junior at the University of Arizona from Phoenix, AZ, is currently serving as publicity chair for the new InnoWorks chapter at the University of Arizona. He is currently working on a media arts major and biochemistry minor at the University of Arizona. Nirav graduated from North Canyon high school in Phoenix, AZ. During his time at North Canyon, Nirav participated heavily in the North Canyon March of Dimes program. During his four year tenure with the program, the North Canyon March of Dimes chapter ranked in the top five for amount of money raised out of all high schools in the nation. He also spent many hours volunteering at a local hospital and was an active member of Key Club (volunteering club), as well.
At the University of Arizona, Nirav is currently working on a TV show he created and directs called The Vitamin. The Vitamin is a health promotion show that airs on UA’s local college network, UATV. Nirav is also a member of the executive board for a club called Alternative Breaks which sends students on fun volunteer trips during spring break to places Imuris, Mexico. Nirav himself has attended such trips during two of his spring breaks. During this particular year, Alternative Breaks lost a majority of its funding due to budget cuts. Despite this major setback, Nirav and the rest of the executive board were still able to raise enough funds without University money, and send students on a variety of volunteer trips for the regular, nominal fee of $175 (includes food, travel, and housing). He also spends time at UA’s SALT (Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques) center with students who have learning disabilities and tutors them in a in a variety of subjects. He also had the pleasure of shadowing a pediatrician for three months. In addition, Nirav is also the creator and chief writer for a pre-medical blog called PreM.D. which offers a variety of resources for pre-medical students like articles on the future of medicine and an interview with the dean of University of Arizona Medical College. Nirav’s most passionate hobby is being a film “junkie” (writing, creating, and watching). He is also an ardent Phoenix Suns basketball fan (since second grade), and loves to edit photos.
