Lydia Chen is a sophomore majoring in biology and Spanish. She was a staff member for Innoworks last year. Lydia is a captain for the Duke Women's Rugby Football Club team, the treasurer for WOODS (Wilderness Opportunities Outdoors for Durham Students), a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and a member of Toys and Tales. She volunteers at after school programs once a week and helps with various community projects such as bringing Christmas presents to underprivileged Durham students. Lydia works in the Heitman lab in the department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology studying the glucose sensing pathway and mating genes in the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. She also has experience tutoring children in English and math. Lydia received the Carrie Shoemaker scholarship for Alpha Delta Pi sorority this year and intends to assume a leadership position in the sorority next year. She also plans to become an officer in Toys and Tales and has recently been elected as the Vice President for the rugby team. Lydia is very passionate about Taiwan, where she is from, and enjoys all activities and traditions related to the Taiwanese cultures such as karaoke, Taiwanese food, and Jay Chou's music. She also enjoys long distance running, reading, and deep conversations with friends.
