Anne Wang

2012 Co-Deputy Director

I, Anne Wang, am an undergraduate in my Junior year at the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Biochemistry. I was the child who would excitedly pore over furniture-building manuals then construct intricate desks and shelving for my parents. That does not exactly relate to my current studies, but I believe that this interest in knowing how something works and is put together is what hooked me on science.

I have always loved science for as long as I can remember, but my other passions include drawing, piano, running, organizing cultural plays, and, warm mugs of coffee on chilly mornings. In school, I enjoy studying the neogenesis of hair follicles and fat cells at my lab, exploring Philadelphia, tasting the culinary offerings, and celebrating my cultural identity as a member of the Chinese Students’ Association. Pablo Picasso once stated, “Some people turn the sun into a yellow dot, others turn a yellow dot into the sun.”

In other words, with a little creativity and thinking outside of the box, the ordinary can turn into the extraordinary. I hope to make something extraordinary out of my every day.
