Iryna Butsky

2012 Mentor

Iryna is a rising junior studying Astrophysics at Caltech. After receiving her B.S. degree, she plans on obtaining a PhD in either Physics or Astrophysics.

Iryna graduated as the Salutatorian of San Jose's Valley Christian High School. She was the president of her school's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. As a junior, she helped launch the robotics program, the WarriorBorgs. Iryna was the project manager of the FTC team as well as the lead programmer of the FRC team. Throughout her high school career, Iryna enjoyed being a camp counselor for Walden West outdoor camp and Valley Christian's Band Camp and Robotics Camp. Working with kids is one of her passions, and she is grateful for the opportunity to be a mentor with InnoWorks.

Outside of her scientific interests, Iryna enjoys playing music, singing, and dancing. In high school, Iryna was a dedicated member of the marching band and wind ensemble as a clarinetist. Outside of school, she danced ballet at the Almaden School of Music. During her time at Caltech, she has taken part in the Glee Club, Chamber Singers, the Caltech Pep Band, and various instrumental chamber music groups. Iryna has also used her time at Caltech to explore new styles of dance, including Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop, and is the president of the Caltech Dance Troupe.
