Chi Young Shin

2014, 2013 Co-Director

Hello, my name is Chi Young Shin and I am a Junior at Johns Hopkins University majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I had never anticipated that I would join InnoWorks JHU Chapter yet at some point I found myself immersed among a group of inspired and motivated people that had joined together for a specific goal: To provide services to the community and aid underprivileged children to a better future. I had been inspired by the role InnoWorks played in aiding the local community and thus found myself joining the ranks of inspired students that had kept this program running.

One of the reasons I was particularly drawn towards InnoWorks was due to the fact that I was able to teach children about science in a very fun and inspiring way. As I watched the kids I have mentored through the program I was inexplicably reminded of the instances when I was inspired to pursue science and later, more specifically, biomedical engineering. It was these instances that had fueled my ambition and determination and, eventually, lead me to Johns Hopkins University. I had wanted to be part of this process that could potentially motivate children to pursue the dynamic world of science.

In the past, I have worked with children mostly through the church I had attended. I had traveled to Kenya and Madagascar on Outreach programs where I taught and aided the children in the local communities. The kids I had encountered ranged from 4 years of age up to 17 years of age. They had been unforgettable experiences that I would later come to treasure.

I am an international student of Johns Hopkins University with a South Korean nationality. However, I had grown up in Dubai, UAE where I studied from elementary school to high school. I had graduated from International School of Choueifat and had participated in research in Seoul, South Korea at the SNP (single-nucleotide-polymorphism) genetics Lab for 2 summers. I am also an active of Lambda Phi Epsilon where I continue to give services to the community through various philanthropy events. I personally enjoy playing basketball, listening to music, spending time with my friends, and watching movies in my free time.
