University of California, Los Angeles Chapter
Message from the Director: Arnav Mehta
Welcome to the InnoWorks program at UCLA! This is our first year as an InnoWorks chapter and we are extremely excited to share this opportunity to promote careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEM2) with underserved middle-school youth in the Los Angeles area. We are jointly working with the Harvard Medical School-MIT chapter to design a state-of-the-art medical curriculum called “Medical Miracles” that will introduce students to some of the most fascinating medical mysteries and technologies of our time. Our inaugural camp will be held in the summer of 2010.
Our group of volunteers is composed of a passionate group of medical students from a variety of backgrounds, each of whom shares a desire to teach, and impart the experiences that have inspired them to be physicians and scientists. As active and energetic participants in numerous community activities, we hope to eventually draw young minds from all the disparate populations of Los Angeles in an effort to inspire students of all backgrounds to think creatively and pursue careers in the sciences. As medical students, we wish to forge lasting new friendships with participating students while sharing our curiosity in science and medicine as camp mentors.
We are grateful for the precious guidance of our community and university leaders, and look forward to continuing to develop strong relationships with each of them. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to get involved with our program in any way or if you have any questions.
